Rainer Breit

With 72 years of painting under his belt as a part-time artist, Rainer has embraced most forms of canvas painting. Starting with impressionism through to abstract expressionism, both figurative and landscape, and finally settling on his own style of abstracted landscapes, which often include birdlife. Initially an oil painter, he now prefers a mix of acrylic, pastel and crayon.

In Port Douglas during winter, he is fascinated by the natural beauty of Far North Queensland – its pond life and tidal zones; while summers in Victoria draw him to depict the underwater, having been a keen diver for forty years. His property on Swan Bay, a world heritage wetland, also inspires him.

Rainer is not prolific and has only recently taken to selling most of his output and has also taken on some commissions. He is pleased to be associated with this excellent group of Port Douglas artists.
