Artist, Curator & President of Port Douglas Artists Inc.
Port Douglas, Far North Queensland
Chrissie McLaughlin is a professional artist based in Port Douglas, Far North Queensland. Her work is inspired by the natural environment, including the rainforest, coastline, and unique landscapes of the region.
Her practice begins en plein air, using watercolour to capture the changing light, colour, and atmosphere of the tropics. In the studio, Chrissie works with acrylics, oil paints, pure pigments, and locally sourced ochres. She builds layers of colour and texture to achieve depth, clarity, and vibrancy in her paintings.
Chrissie operates a custom fine art print business for interior design projects and undertakes original private and commercial commissions across multiple mediums. In 2020 and 2021, she created original paintings for two Netflix productions filmed in Far North Queensland.
She is also the founder and curator of Art in Transit, an online gallery representing leading North Queensland artists. The platform showcases sculpture, original works, and fine art prints, providing a professional space for artists and collectors to connect.
Chrissie has been an active member of the Port Douglas arts community since 1990 and currently serves as secretary of Port Douglas Artists Inc. In this role, she supports local artists, coordinates exhibitions, and contributes to initiatives that strengthen the creative community in Far North Queensland.
Her work combines a deep understanding of colour, materials, and composition with a commitment to professional practice, community engagement, and creative innovation. Chrissie continues to explore new methods and techniques, creating artworks that reflect both the physical environment and the ideas that emerge from it.
